Loren Poley: This book tells the story of
a poor, illegitimate girl who experiences the pain of emotional and
physical abuse within a tortured southern family. The story is told
in a first person narrative through “Bone”, the young girl. The book reads
like biography rather than fiction; and after researching the author, I
can understand why. The characters were powerfully depicted, and the writing
is beautiful even though the subject matter is disturbing.
