Between Shades of Gray

Between Shades of Gray

by Ruta Sepetys

Faith Bowers (08/18/13): This book tells the story of Lithuanians who were deported to Siberia in 1941 under Stalin. They were first deported to a beet farm in Siberia but it was pretty far south and they had a hut to live in. The train ride and the farm were well described in credible style. Between Shades of Gray is a Young Adult historical fiction novel. The book is an easy read though the topic is challenging and well depicted. Ms. Sepetys does a great job with character development for the children and adults in this book. My Great Uncle also disappeared under Stalin so this was personally enlightening as well.
