Lies

Lies

by T.M. Logan

Overview: Six days ago, Joe Lynch was a happily married man, a devoted father, and a respected teacher living in a well-to-do London suburb. But that was before he spotted his wife’s car entering a hotel parking garage. Before he saw her in a heated argument with her best friend’s husband. Before Joe confronted the other man in an altercation where he left him for dead, bleeding and unconscious.

Now, Joe’s life is unraveling. His wife has lied to him. Her deception has put their entire family in jeopardy. The man she met at the hotel has vanished. And as the police investigate his disappearance, suspicion falls on Joe.

Unable to trust the woman he loves, Joe finds himself at the mercy of her revelations and deceits, unsure of who or what to believe. All he knows is that her actions have brought someone dangerous into their lives—someone obsessed with her and determined to tear Joe’s world apart.

Deanna Boe (12/16/18): This is a “first” novel by Logan, I am sure there will be more. As a first novel, I thought it was above average but there were parts that left a little to be desired, especially the ending. Because it is a murder mystery, the ending almost seemed as if the author felt compelled to come up with something shocking and unusual, which it was. The ending also seemed rushed and crammed with too many points, whereas the majority of the book was at what I consider a more “normal” pace and it did want you to keep reading.

The main character, Joe Lynch, seems like a wonderful man, who has what some might consider a fairly “normal” job teaching. Whereas his wife has a more stressful job, although I was never quite sure just what it was. Joe has more time to take care of their pre-school child. I especially enjoyed the part where it is revealed the son’s first word was “Audi” – not mommy or daddy. It just so happens I have a grandchild who also knew all the cars on the road by a similar age. It is this knowledge of cars that sets the stage for a very strange encounter and what happens in the book. The storyline does have lots of twists and turns and you are never quite sure just what is happening. Was a man killed? Did Joe do it? Was Joe’s wife having an affair? Why does Joe continue to love and want his wife? You won’t find out from me. Others who have reviewed this book absolutely loved it, whereas there were those who hated it. You will have to be the judge on this one.

Carole Zwicker (11/12/18): Every now and then comes a suspenseful mystery that is totally unpredictable from beginning to end. Lies by TM Logan is a debut that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Joe Lynch is a husband, father and teacher who is living a simple, happy life until he spots his wife's car entering the parking garage of a local hotel. From that point on, nothing will be as it seems. To tell you more might give away too much of the plot. The reader will find it difficult to tell the good guys from the bad guys. TM Logan has written a fascinating novel and I look forward to reading more from this author.
