Mr. Mercedes

Mr. Mercedes

by Stephen King

Dale Israel (07/08/14): I never was a really big Stephen King fan until I read 11/22/63 and enjoyed it immensely. When Mr. Mercedes was released, I decided to give it a try. I had been suffering from "reader's block" and needed something that would grab my attention immediately. Thankfully, this book set me back on course to the land of reading!

Bill Hodges is a middle-aged, divorced police detective who doesn't know what to do with himself now that he is retired. He is depressed and has nothing better to do than watch TV and think about all the perps who got away. The one who causes him the most angst is Brady Hartsfield, a psychopath who used a Mercedes to mow down a crowd of people waiting in line for a job fair. And this, my friends, is the main premise of the book. You'll have to read it to discover all the twists and turns.

I enjoyed Mr. Mercedes a lot. Is it fine literature? Not really, but it drew me in and kept my attention. The characters were interesting and the story moved along at a good pace. I would definetly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good summer read. Now on to the next one on my reading list: All the Light We Cannot See....can't wait to start another intriguing journey!
