Mr. Rosenblum Dreams in English

by Natasha Solomons

Judy Stanton (03/16/13): I have to admit up front that I have a hard time reading books that are supposed to be humorous. Most of the time, I just don't find them funny. Unfortunately, that's the case with this book. The story is about a German couple who escape the Holocaust to move to England, where the husband wants desperately to fit in. He takes his "immigration pamphlet" literally as the commandments on how to be "English." While he is successful in business, he is still an "outsider" who's not allowed to play golf at the clubs where Jews are not welcomed. So, he tries to build his own golf course! The story is sweet and simple, with some fanciful characters. A quick read which Anglophiles might enjoy.
