by MarJane Satrapi

Carol Sherman (12/30/13): If you have never read a graphic novel (reads like a comic book) this is a great one to introduce you to this literary form.

Persepolis was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire (ca. 550330 BC). Persepolis is situated 70 km northeast of the modern city of Shiraz in the Fars Province of modern Iran. The earliest remains of Persepolis date from around 515 BCE. UNESCO declared the citadel of Persepolis a World Heritage Site in 1979.

This book is a memoir about Satrapi who grows up in revolutionary Iran. I loved Satrapi's artistic graphic presentation. It conveyed the story and the emotions very well and way a great way for the reader to engage in what was going on. You will find it a unique reading experience.
