Raspberry Danish Murder

Raspberry Danish Murder

by Joanne Fluke

Overview: Hannah has felt as bitter as November in Minnesota since Ross vanished without a trace and left their marriage in limbo. Still, she throws herself into a baking frenzy for the sake of pumpkin pie and Thanksgiving-themed treats while endless holiday orders pour into The Cookie Jar. Hannah even introduces a raspberry Danish pastry to the menu, and P.K., her husband’s assistant at KCOW-TV, will be one of the first to sample it. But instead of taking a bite, P.K., who is driving Ross’s car and using his desk at work, is murdered. Was someone plotting against P.K. all along or did Ross dodge a deadly dose of sweet revenge? Hannah will have to quickly sift through a cornucopia of clues and suspects to stop a killer from bringing another murder to the table . . .

Deanna Boe (07/16/18): Discovering this book in the Atlanta library was like a “gift from home” novel. I last read one of the books from Joanne Fluke’s series in 2013. After I moved to Georgia I did not notice any of her books and simply forgot about them. That is pretty hard to do since she has written 22 novels with the main character Hannah Swensen. Hannah lives in a small Minnesota town where she owns her own bakery. Her specialty happens to be cookies. But, that isn’t all she does. Hannah manages to solve a murder in every book along with cooking up all these delicious sounding cookies/bars – and other luscious dishes for which she so kindly gives us her recipes.

I have managed to copy several from each book that I have read. Since I last read about Hannah she has married, but in this book her husband has simply disappeared. She, her family, and friends don’t seem super concerned, which I thought was odd. At the very end we find out where he has gone, naturally after Hannah has solved another murder. This wasn’t the best book of this series, but still fun to read, definitely what I call a “beach/summer” read. If you have never read any of these books from the series I would go back a few years and start there to give you a better idea of all the characters that always appear in her novels.
