Second Life

Second Life

by S.J. Watson

Overview: From the New York Times bestselling author of Before I Go to Sleep, a sensational new psychological thriller about a woman with a secret identity that threatens to destroy her.

How well can you really know another person? How far would you go to find the truth about someone you love?

When Julia learns that her sister has been violently murdered, she must uncover why. But Julia's quest quickly evolves into an alluring exploration of own darkest sensual desires. Becoming involved with a dangerous stranger online, she's losing herself . . . losing control . . . perhaps losing everything. Her search for answers will jeopardize her marriage, her family, and her life.

A tense and unrelenting novel that explores the secret lives people lead—and the dark places in which they can find themselves—Second Life is a masterwork of suspense from the acclaimed S. J. Watson.

Judy Stanton (10/08/15): Watson's first book, Before I Go to Sleep, motivated me to seek out his second, and, once again I was sucked into a riveting page turner. Watson deftly uses cyberspace to create terror, when playing "games" with online "hook ups" proves to be much more dangerous than the characters expect. No one really knows what is real and what is not, who is telling the truth and who is making up lies. The book centers on Julia, who has an addictive personality. In her youth, she was heavily involved in the drug scene, but is now living as an affluent doctor's wife, with a son she adopted from her younger sister. When Kate is murdered, the plot picks up steam. Julia wants to figure out who did it, but her questionable approach gets her caught up in a "hook up" that obsesses her life, and, ultimately, leads to her undoing. I was caught by surprise at the ending; however, and found myself questioning how it all played out.
