Summoning the Mountains

Summoning the Mountains

by Amy Allen

Kathie Thaw (08/06/13): This book is a compelling account of a woman who hiked the Appalachian Trail, and made it. I understand that only one in four people actually make it the whole way. I picked up this book while recovering from foot surgery, which involved breaking my foot and pinning it in 4 places. I read this book during my recovery, which was inspiring to me in “hiking” my own metaphorical Appalachian Trail. I could identify with the struggles, the sheer length of time involved, the injuries, the sheer grit and determination to make it. I admire a woman who breaks out of the box and goes after her dream, and this is exactly what Amy has done, and recounts for you. I felt like I was right there with Amy, hiking the trail with her, the descriptions are so vivid. It isn’t easy for anyone to set aside months of time to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail, and you’ll discover how Amy did that. Well written, it has definitely earned 5 stars.
