The High Tide Club

The High Tide Club

by Mary Kay Andrews

Overview: When ninety-nine-year-old heiress Josephine Bettendorf Warrick summons Brooke Trappnell to Talisa Island, her 20,000 acre remote barrier island home, Brooke is puzzled. Everybody in the South has heard about the eccentric millionaire mistress of Talisa, but Brooke has never met her. Josephine’s cryptic note says she wants to discuss an important legal matter with Brooke, who is an attorney, but Brooke knows that Mrs. Warrick has long been a client of a prestigious Atlanta law firm.

Over a few meetings, the ailing Josephine spins a tale of old friendships, secrets, betrayal and a long-unsolved murder. She tells Brooke she is hiring her for two reasons: to protect her island and legacy from those who would despoil her land, and secondly, to help her make amends with the heirs of the long dead women who were her closest friends, the girls of The High Tide Club—so named because of their youthful skinny dipping escapades—Millie, Ruth and Varina. When Josephine dies with her secrets intact, Brooke is charged with contacting Josephine’s friends’ descendants and bringing them together on Talisa for a reunion of women who’ve actually never met.

Martha Lawton (Marjay's Reading Blog http://marjay.simplesite.com) (05/14/18): High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews came out this week! The book is a great summer read with loads of twists and turns and surprises. Mary Kay Andrews books are usually light and breezy reads perfect for a sunny day at the beach. High Tide Club is no different as it was a fun read. There were some elements of mystery, twists and turns that were not totally a surprise, but were unexpected.

Josephine Bettendorf Warrick is dying and has decided to leave her home and land to her best friends growing up. Two of the friends have died, but they had children who had children. Brooke Trappnell goes out to Talisa Island to meet with Josephine to help save the home and find the missing descendents. That is until she realizes she is one of them. This leads Brooke to reach out to her old boss to help her with the estate issue since it would be unethical, if she took the case. Things get even more interesting when the cast of characters show up and stories start be shared. Then the interesting turns to murder and confusion and more twists.

I enjoyed the book The High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews. The story was interesting and layered with various secrets slowly being unveiled . The characters were quirky and the story lines interesting. The High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews was a good read.
