The Identicals

The Identicals

by Elin Hilderbrand

Overview: Identical twin sisters who couldn't look more alike...or live more differently. Harper Frost is laid-back, easygoing. She doesn't care what anyone thinks of her. She likes a beer and a shot and wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything fashionable. She's inherited her father's rundown house on Martha's Vineyard, but she can't hold down a job, and her latest romantic disaster has the entire island talking.

Two beautiful islands only eleven miles apart. Tabitha Frost is dignified, refined. She prefers a fine wine and has inherited the impeccable taste of her mother, the iconic fashion designer Eleanor Roxie-Frost. She's also inherited her mother's questionable parenting skills—Tabitha's teenage daughter, Ainsley, is in full rebellion mode—and a flailing fashion boutique on Nantucket in desperate need of a cash infusion.

One unforgettable summer that will change their lives forever. After more than a decade apart, Harper and Tabitha switch islands—and lives—to save what's left of their splintered family. But the twins quickly discover that the secrets, lies, and gossip they thought they'd outrun can travel between islands just as easily as they can. Will Harper and Tabitha be able to bury the hatchet and end their sibling rivalry once and for all? Before the last beach picnic of the season, there will be enough old resentments, new loves, and cases of mistaken identity to make this the most talked-about summer that Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket have experienced in ages.

Debbie Weiss (01/18/18): This is a fun book to read. Harper and Tabitha are twins whose parents divorced when they were young. Each twin went to live with one of the parents, one parent/child set residing in Martha's Vinyard and the other parent/child set residing in Nantucket. While they are identical in looks, the girls are polar opposites in personalities. They are estranged for about 10 years and this story is about how they reconnect and grow to appreciate each other after all this time. As Marilyn indicated in her review, the book is well written and touches on many aspects of family relationships. I enjoyed it.

Marilyn Baron (10/25/17): Every once in a while I come across a book that I don’t want to put down, yet I don’t want to finish, because I don’t want it to be over. The Identicals is such a book. It works on every level: A fresh voice, excellent writing, great characters that seem like friends, great settings, a wonderful plot, two great love stories, and my requisite—a happy ending. I’ve never read any books by this author but now that I have, I am going to read the other books she’s written.

The Identicals is a story of identical twins living on two islands—Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket—as beautiful and different as they are. It’s a story about sibling rivalry, teenage angst, secrets, lies, gossip, love affairs and misunderstandings. It’s a page turner and I recommend this book to everyone who loves to read.
