The Last Banquet

The Last Banquet

by Jonathan Brimwood

Overview: Starting life in the gutter, Jean-Marie d'Aumout rises through the ranks of eighteenth-century French society propelled by his wits and an obsession with finding the perfect taste. But beyond the palace walls, revolution is in the air and the country is clamouring with a hunger of a different kind..

Linda Smither (08/06/18): This is one of the strangest books I have ever read. It follows the life of a man who has an obsession to taste everything. It takes place in France during the times leading up to the Revolution, a very interesting historical period. He is a member of the aristocracy, so the story being told from this point of view is interesting. The strange eating passages are just one story line. He is a very likable character and the ending is really, really, really good! If you don't mind reading recipes about snakes, cats, beetles, etc. and you like books that are completely unpredictable, you may enjoy this one!
