The Silence of Benaventure Arrow

The Silence of Bonaventure Arrow

by Rita Leganski

Nanette Littlestone (04/27/13): Come sit a spell in the town of Bayou Cymbaline and listen to the story of lil' Bonaventure Arrow. It’s a sorrowful story in that big house of his with his sweet, sweet mother Dancy and his Grand-mère Letice with all her secrets, and their housekeeper Trinidad Prefontaine who hands out herb charms and weaves hoodoo spells. No need to rush now, just take your time and listen to the boy who hears flowers grow and the sound of colors and the beat of love from one heart to another.

Rita Leganski shines in this debut novel with her lush descriptions and lyrical writing that transport you to the soul of New Orleans. If you believe in magic, this story is for you. My only complaint is her wandering point of view, but I easily let that slide in favor of the depth of her characters and the oh-so-compelling story. Surprising moments and a twist at the end will keep you glued to the book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
