The Warmth of Other Suns

The Warmth of Other Suns

by Isabel Wilkerson

Gwendolyn Waring (06/11/12): I am a history buff, so this wonderful documentary of the stories of three black families who migrated from the South to escape Jim Crow and racism was fascinating to me. It made me want to ask my mother, grandmother and others their stories of events that shaped/caused their migration to the North. But alas, my people are gone. Thankfully Wilkerson has expertly presented three different tales of Chicago, California and New York; I can only imagine what my parents went through and although their stories are lost, at least 3 survive.
