Truly Madly Guilty

Truly Madly Guilty

by Liane Moriarty

Overview: Six responsible adults. Three cute kids. One small dog. Itís just a normal weekend. What could possibly go wrong? In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty turns her unique, razor-sharp eye towards three seemingly happy families. Sam and Clementine have a wonderful, albeit, busy life: they have two little girls, Sam has just started a new dream job, and Clementine, a cellist, is busy preparing for the audition of a lifetime. If thereís anything they can count on, itís each other.

Clementine and Erika are each otherís oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam donít hesitate. Having Tiffany and Vidís larger than life personalities there will be a welcome respite. Two months later, it wonít stop raining, and Clementine and Sam canít stop asking themselves the question: What if we hadnít gone?

In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty takes on the foundations of our lives: marriage, sex, parenthood, and friendship. She shows how guilt can expose the fault lines in the most seemingly strong relationships, how what we donít say can be more powerful than what we do, and how sometimes it is the most innocent of moments that can do the greatest harm.l

Linda Schulte (04/12/17): Having read several of the author's other books, I grabbed this new one when I saw it appear in my local library. I was not disappointed. This gripping story centers around three very different couples, their marriage relationships, their relationships with each other and the main event- a backyard barbecue. Moriarity is a master of character development- no heroes, no villains- just real, flawed human beings trying to deal with the good and bad of life and make the best of it. Some surprising twists and turns keep you guessing!

Faith Bowers(10/31/16): Liane Moriarty mysteries are not who done it but what happened? They are set in modern day Australia and this book is another of her humorous reads. The what happened was on the day of the barbecue and we go through almost 300 pages to find out what events triggered the after effects of three families. Meanwhile we meet 7 adult characters and 3 children and how they change and grow from the events of the day of the barbecue. Their back stories are well written and we come to hope for the best for each one. The book although a long read is enjoyable.
