Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald

Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald

by Therese Anne Fowler

Judy Stanton (09/16/13): The nightly clubbing in the movie Midnight in Paris comes to life in this fictionalized story of the life of renowned author F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda. The story is told through her eyes, and it's fraught with "life in the fast lane" living-- over- spending, excessive drinking and partying, and sexual advances and affairs. The reader feels the terrible frustration Zelda experiences living under the thumb of a dominant man who defines her role in life according to his needs, and becomes jealous of even her smallest successes. Yet, she is not a totally likable character herself, giving precious little of her time to her family and, especially, her child. The story moves quickly through the years, dropping names of the rich and famous as they touch the Fitzgeralds' life. Pretty good read about an interesting era. 4-
